Bits of My Weekend

Beginning to look like fall around here.

Printed up these lovely free fall quotes to display around the house.

Mums, hopefully I can keep them alive through fall.

Waiting for it to warm up, my bed is so cozy.

I love Fall, the coolness in the air, the leaves changing and watching one of my boys play football.

Thanksgiving Essentials

I'm hosting Thanksgiving again this year, you may remember last years table.  I am thinking about all the lovely things I could add to my table setting.  I probably wont change it too much this year, maybe just a bit.  This tablecloth from William Sonoma is beautiful, I have a Christmas tablecloth from them and is holds up very well.  The animal place card holders from Pottery Barn are perfect for any fall/winter table setting.  Plus their turkey's are just so darn cute and rustic.  The small plates, with welcoming messages from West Elm, would make great bread plates or salad plates and I think they go perfectly with my table from last year.

Brussels Sprouts

I love roasted Brussels sprouts.  I usually just coat them with olive oil, salt and pepper, Ina's way, but I am trying to figure out a new recipe for Thanksgiving and these all look very tasty.

More Thanksgiving Tablescape

I just can't stop thinking about my Thanksgiving table setting.  Since it is my first time hosting Thanksgiving for the family I want everything to be memorable, really I want everything to be perfect but that is a lot to strive for.  I think I really like simple, rustic tables with lots of whites and browns.   Also, I definitely need fresh flowers, fresh leaves or some gourds to make the table feel more organic.

Thanksgiving Table

This will be my first year hosting Thanksgiving and I can't stop thinking about tablescapes. I'm excited the torch has been passed from my Mother and Father on to me. Time to get ideas because Thanksgiving will be here before you know it.

Hair Style Help

I need help with my hair desperately. I need some style. It has been way to long since I got my hair cut and I am hoping to get it cut and colored this weekend but I can't decide what will look good on me. I love these rich deep brown colors but my roots come in lighter and my grey shows to quickly if I try to go darker. Also, as I get older I think I look younger with shorter hair instead of longer but I'm not sure. It is so hard to pick out a style for my hair, which is thick and wavy, and my face which is round and full. Ugh... I need help. I want to feel stylish and cute so I need to pick one of these styles but which one?

Fall Plus Style- J Jill

Pure Jill textured boat-neck sweatermesa geo printed blouse

Women's Pantsauthentic fit boot-cut jeans

J Jill has one of the best plus size selection of clothes online and available through their catalog.  J Jill fits my style, easy, classic and comfortable.  I have been buying clothes from J Jill for quite along time now and they have always been sized pretty accurately.  The cut of their pants seems to fit my body perfectly.  I am tall and their pants, jeans and dress pants, are long enough for me.  Also, they have a nice selection of dresses and jackets.  J Jill can be expensive but the quality of the clothes is much better then some cheaper lines, plus they have great sales and clearance prices.  I wonder if I would look good in those colored jeans??  I love the mustard color but I am not sure they are the most flattering.

Mayer Brothers Cider Mill

Recently, I have enjoyed two treats from Mayer Brothers Cider Mill, thanks to my dear friend Roger, donuts and caramel apple pie. I am not really a donut person but these were so, so good. The apple cider donuts were moist, because they are made with their cider, and perfectly cakey. I prefer a cake donut.  The maple donuts had just the right amount of maple flavor, not overpowering.

The caramel apple pie is a must for Thanksgiving, but I think if I served it again I would drizzle more caramel over the individual pieces.

However, you must get there fast because the bakery and store are only open through Thanksgiving. I'm definitely heading back before they close for the season.
The Cider Mill Store will open this year from August 17th until Thanksgiving.

Hours are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Fall in Two Countries

"In the entire circle of the year there are no days so delightful as those of a fine October, when the trees are bare to the mild heavens, and the red leaves bestrew the road, and you can feel the breath of winter, morning and evening -- no days so calm, so tenderly solemn, and with such a reverent meekness in the air."

-Alexander Smith
