After School Snack

I took the day off today so I decided to make a pound cake for when the boys got home from school.  It's been kind of a rough week around here and it is only Thursday.  I made Paula Dean's Momma's Pound Cake.  I really like this recipe it came out really nice, moist and buttery.

I am loving this video, what an incredible advertisement.  It makes me want to go get a Volvo right and runaway to Iceland or Sweden. 

Ever since I started watching Mad Men I have been really thinking about what goes into advertising.  What a creative and interesting job.

Monday, Bedroom Love



It's Monday and I had a really hard time getting out of bed this morning.  If I woke up in one of these bedrooms, I probably would never get out of bed.

House Envy

Did you see Jessie Webster's house, she blogs at Sweet Thing Blog, on Design Sponge?  I really want to live in a space like this, it is so beautiful.  It's warm and cozy, yet modern and well styled.  I just love it. 

Mad Men

I must be watching too much Mad Men because I can't get this quote by Don Draper out of my head.

In the past two weeks, I have watched seasons 1-4 and man is this show is good.  Don is so smooth, such a dog but so attractive at the same time. 

Downsizing

I often dream of downsizing.  I'm just tired of taking care of a large house.  My current house is about 2600 square feet with a walk out basement, which isn't too large but lately it has been feeling way to big.  I just feel like all my free time is spent on yard work (about 1 acre) and house work.  Plus all my money goes into maintaining the house which leaves very little funds left over for extras/fun.  The problem is my children love this house and it is the only home they have ever known, so downsizing may be a really hard adjustment for them.   Although, children are very resilient.  Who knows, maybe someday.

Both of these houses are around 1750 square feet.  I really love the ranch and its open living space but a two story is cheaper to build and offers a 4th bedroom.

My oldest son turned 15 this past weekend and I honestly can not believe how fast the time has gone. 

I know I may be a bit bias but he really is turning into an incredible man, I could not be more proud of him. He is wise beyond his years and he so kind.  I am blessed.  

I had these pictures printed up at Staples.  I got the idea from Annie at Most Lovely Things, who got the idea from Paula of Two Ellie.  Aren't they a great?  They are super cheap, I think I paid about $12.00 for all 4 of these, plus they would be great for a graduation party or my Mother's 70th birthday coming up.  I think I may have went a bit overboard though, maybe next time I wont get them quite so big.

Clayton doesn't like cake, damn kid, so he requested cookies and ice cream sandwiches, which everyone seemed to enjoy.  When I make cookies I always use The Barefoot Contessa's recipes, I made chocolate chunk cookies and chocolate-chocolate chunk cookies but I used regular chocolate chunks instead of white chocolate.  I have been making these cookies for about 10 years and in my opinion, these cookies are the best.

Non-Traditional Bar Cart Ideas

Bar carts are definitely all the rage and have been for quite awhile.  I saw this shelving unit on sale at World Market for only $89.99 and my first thought is it would make a great bar cart.  I really like the industrial look.

This industrial cart from Hudson Goods is bit more pricey but would make a really fun bar cart.



Love the pop of green color on this bar cart.  Also, look at all that booze, I would need to do some major shopping, I tend to only keep wine on hand. 

Maybe its all the Mad Men I have been watching that has me thinking about bar carts.
