Modern Country

I'm currently renting a house that is very country, like 1990's country with birdhouses, green Corian counter tops and tassel drapes.  I really want each room to feel a little more like me and my style.  I want to create a space where I want to hang out.  Since the house is already country I think I can find a compromise if I lean more toward a modern country style.

I'm going to start with the family room and mostly use the furniture and accessories I already have.
I really like the look of these modern country family rooms so I'm aiming for something like that.

Happy Weekend and a Reminder

Happy Weekend!

I read this recently and I keep trying to remind myself of this.

Don’t try to hold on to everything. – Life changes. Everything is not meant to stay. Remember, giving up and moving on are two very different things. When things aren’t adding up in your life, it’s time to start subtracting.

Teenage Boys Room

I saw this room on Desire to Inspire and thought this would make the best teenage boys room, especially for my 15 year old who loves The Beatles.

White Rooms with Pops of Color

I love white rooms but they can feel so cold or too bright but these three family rooms are done so well.  They are white but fresh and modern with just the right amount of pops of color.

It's been a long, cold week already, wish I was in any one of these beds.

Happy Cyber Monday

The bright and colorful home of Riikka of hunajaista

I wouldn't mind spending my day shopping online from this space.  I love the light floors and white walls.

My holiday weekend was so nice, spending time with family and friends is just what I needed.  I forgot to take pictures of our Thanksgiving feast, I was too busy cooking and drinking wine.  I did however, manage to get a picture of breakfast, my Publix Pilgrims and homemade applesauce in the slow cooker.

6 Cortland apples, peeled and chopped
1/2 cup of sugar
sprinkle enough cinnamon on top to cover the apples

Bonus, it makes your house smell great too.

Cook in the slow cooker on high for about 5 hours or low for about 8, you can tell when the apples are completely soft.  You can mash it with a potato masher or use an immersion hand blender to mix it up if you don't like chunks.

Scandinavian Designed Kitchen

kjøkken (3)

Now that I sold my builder grade home so quickly, I am thinking about what I want to do next. I know I want a place I can make my own, with design that feels like home to me.  Like everyone lately I do love white kitchens but this khaki and black kitchen is so appealing.  The lighting, the cabinet color and the black storage cabinets all go so perfectly.  Who wouldn't love to cook this kitchen and eat at that cute breakfast nook.  The ideas in my head for a new home are running ramped.

Inspirational Spaces

Do you ever see a space and just feel so inspired, like something in you shifts?  Since we now have access to so many pictures of spaces at our fingertips, thanks Pinterest, design has become so important and readily available.  I see pictures of spaces that I want to live in, that I want to work in and that I want to recreate for myself.  This office is one of those spaces that really moved me.  I could imagine working here, it's just so creative in a  non-distracting way.

black ceramic tile backsplash

I am kind of obsessed with subway tile back splashes, but who isn't right now.   I think I prefer a white tile back splash but I have been seeing a lot of black or blackish tiles lately and they are so sharp looking.  They make the kitchen pop.  I prefer the monochromatic look like in picture three, which I think is a more classic look.  I really like the black tile with black cabinets and white walls.  I can not stop thinking of how I want to buy an old fixer upper and make it just what I want.  There is just something so right about making a space your own.

The Villas at Disney's Grand Floridian

My nephew snuck off to Disney World to check out the new Grand Floridian Vacation Club Villas and he sent me few pictures.  Disney has done such a great job with these I could easily live in one of these lovely villas.  I love that they pay attention to all the details, the tile in the kitchen and bathrooms is beautiful.  I like the muted coloring also.  I think the theme is Mary Poppins hence the cute penguins in the fountain.
